About Us

Los Alamos Family Council was incorporated in September 1962, as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation. In January of 1963, LAFC began our journey as a community mental health organization. Since then, LAFC has been focused on the mission: promoting emotional and social well being through education, prevention, and counseling. We work each day with organizations both inside and outside Los Alamos County to identify and utilize resources dedicated to improving the quality of life for everyone in our community.

We offer individual, couple, family, and group therapy for clients of all ages.

Our therapists facilitate substance abuse groups, offer art therapy groups, and join with Los Alamos Public Schools and Los Alamos County Social Services to facilitate and assist with programs like SMART Recovery & Teen Court. Our knowledgeable staff help those in need of court or job related mental health assessment by focusing on trauma informed, person centered therapeutic interventions, and by putting the client's welfare first.

Our Youth Activity Centers in both Los Alamos and White Rock provide a safe, fun environment for kiddos 3rd - 8th grade by offering after school and summer programs at no cost to the public. Our carefully chosen AC staff strive to engage your children with fun activities, learning opportunities, and field trips that take "child care" to a whole new level of awesome.

"Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work for you doesn’t mean you can, should, or need to do it alone."  - Lisa Olivera
